Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before and after purchase.
What N2O chargers are compatible with this dispenser?
The WellWhip 500ml dispenser is compatible with all standard 8g N2O (nitrous oxide) cream chargers. This includes WellWhip-brand chargers as well as most universal-fit chargers available on the market. For a standard 0.5L fill of heavy cream, one 8g charger is sufficient. For thicker preparations — such as ganache, mascarpone cream, or high-fat double cream — you may use two chargers for a fuller charge. Always use N2O chargers only. Never use CO2 chargers, as these will not aerate cream correctly and can damage the internal valve.
How do I clean the dispenser after use?
Always release any remaining gas pressure before disassembling — invert the dispenser and press the lever until no more cream or gas comes out, then unscrew the head carefully. The stainless steel 304 head, all three nozzles, and the silicone gasket are dishwasher-safe and can be placed on the top rack. The anodized aluminum body should be hand-washed with warm soapy water — do not place it in a dishwasher, as prolonged exposure to dishwasher detergents can dull the anodized finish over time. Use the included cleaning brush to push through each nozzle tip after every use to prevent cream residue from building up. Dry all parts completely before reassembling and storing.
How long does whipped cream last in the dispenser?
When kept refrigerated and sealed, charged whipped cream will maintain its texture and flavour for several days — typically 3 to 5 days for standard heavy cream. The sealed pressurised environment slows oxidation and bacterial growth compared to a bowl of hand-whipped cream, which deflates within hours. For best results, keep the dispenser upright in the fridge and give it a firm 2–3 shake before each use to redistribute the gas charge evenly through the cream. Storage time also depends on the freshness of the cream used — always check the original expiry of your ingredients as a guide.
Can I make savory foams and espumas with this dispenser?
Yes — the WellWhip 500ml works equally well with savory liquids as it does with sweet cream. To create a stable espuma, your liquid base needs sufficient fat content or a stabilising agent. Common approaches include adding soy lecithin (0.3–0.5% by weight), xanthan gum, or agar to your liquid before charging with N2O. Popular savory applications include truffle oil foam, herb-infused crème fraîche, gazpacho espuma, miso butter foam, and citrus beurre blanc. For purely liquid-based espumas with no fat content, a hydrocolloid stabiliser is recommended to maintain structure after dispensing.
